Società di Danza is a cultural association founded in Bologna in 1991 by Fabio Mòllica, who’s also the current director.
The purpose of the association is the study, dissemination and practice of historical dances with particular reference to the nineteenth-century country dances. In particular, we want to rebuild a dance system based on the European tradition of the last century.
The 19th century country dances include quadrilles, contra dances, waltzes, mazurka and polka. The aim of the association is the research of the artistic technique that made this dance system particularly significant in the nineteenth century both artistically and socially, and not only as mere mass entertainment.
The Società di Danza group is affiliated with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society of Edinburgh.
Since October 2007, the Società di Danza has been a federation of local sections, groups and individuals who identify themselves with the Manifesto, the System and the Teaching Material.
